CONGRATULATIONS

Well done and congratulations to Fran Martin has been awarded with the Irish Soccer Referees Society Member of the Year Award for 2018.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

Very heavy rain put paid to games involving our Academy and under-eight teams. There were games however. Our under-nines travelled to take on Arklow Town and granted they found the going tough but they kept plugging away. On the day best for Newtown was Felix Geoghegan and Jack Barlow.

Due to the rain the under-10s had to revert to Plan B and play their game with Arklow Town White indoors (Futsal). After a great mornings football among those who starred for Newtown were Sebastian Anton, Ryan Collins, Pat Carey and Aidan Heffernan.

Our 11’s were back on song away to the WDSL Academy by coming out on top on a 3-1 scoreline. In an excellent team display Cormac Chance scored a superb hat trick.

Our 12’s were away to Glencormac Utd in a rain soaked game. Iggy Szpilka scored the Newtown goal while among the star performers were Hannah Martin and Jack Coughlan.

The following are the fixtures for this week: Development Squad Practise every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. – (Indoors); Academy Team away to Roundwood FC ko to be confirmed; under-eights away to Roundwood FC ko to be confirmed; under-nines away to Ashford Rovers ko to be confirmed; under-10s at home to Carnew FC ko Saturday at 11.45 a.m.; under-11s – Fixture to be confirmed; under-12s – Fixture to be confirmed; under-14s away to Wicklow Rovers ‘B’ ko Sunday to be confirmed (fixtures and ko times are subject to change)

All Fixtures Competitive and Non-Trophy will finish weekend of November 17/18, followed by the WDSL Awards, Presentation Day in the Parkview Hotel on Saturday, November 24. 2018.10 a.m. to 4 p.m., (details times etc tbc),

Our ever-popular Development Squad has started back and will continue every weekend from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m. and new players are welcome. The cost is €3 per head. From Saturday, November 10, we will be indoors with the group (same times). Due to the lack of space in the surrounds of the Sports Hall it may not be possible for all parents to view training inside the playing area.

Also due to the large numbers attending any players failing to attend for a number of weeks may have to wait till spaces in the Squad become available. At the moment we have a large number of boys and girls attending each week and thankfully at the moment we have the required coaches needed but we wouldn’t say no to a few more volunteer coaches. If you think you can give an hour or two each week please contact our secretary at the contact details below.

Everyone at Newtown Juniors FC would like to congratulate ex-junior Becky Cassin of Wexford Youths after she and her teammates secured the Women’s FAI Cup after they beat Peamount United 1-0 in the Aviva Stadium on Sunday. Commiserations to Peamount’s Áine O’Gorman, who has been a good friend to our club over the years.

On the same day Newtowner Fran Martin received the Referee’s Society’s award for 2018. Fran was one of a number of top referees from Newtown, who have officiated in the county for many years. Congratulations Fran on your award from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC.

We have three players from the club celebrating a birthday in the coming week and they are Timothy Mariyasingarayan and Michael Lowe from the Development Squad and Adon Thampi from the under-eights. Happy birthday to all three from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC.

Going into the MNF between Huddersfield Town and Fulham where neither team has a selection in week five we have lost just the two players (who selected Watford) leaving us with 58 players going into week six. All selections must be in by 9 p.m. on the Thursday prior to the weekend’s games. Thank you everyone for your continued support.
