Arklow’s roads need upgrade – councillor

-

INVESTMENT is needed to bring Arklow’s roads network up too standard,’ says a local Wicklow County Councillor.

According to Cllr Pat Fitzgerald, it is not sufficient to wait until large scale works are happening and that remedial works are needed urgently in many areas.

‘I have never seen so many roads within the town needing investment. I mentioned roads such Mellows Avenue, Abbey Street, Lower Tinahask, Emoclew Road, Coolgreany Road and the Navvy Hill. I am conscious that some roads will be dug up when the work on the wasterwater treatment plant gets under but at this stage that could be four years away,’ he said.

He acknowledged road improvements which have happened on the north side of town and Main Street.

‘The town has been starved of funding for investment in the roads mentioned since the demise of the town councils,’ he said.
