Radio of the 1930s with Orson Welles

-

ORSON WELLES’S Christmas Carol will be performed at Whale Theatre on Thursday and Friday, December 20 and 21, at 8 p.m.

This play is suitable for the whole family for Christmas, with a touch of old Hollywood glamour.

It’s Christmas Eve 1938 in CBS Studio 1 where the young radio superstar Orson Welles and his Mercury Theatre Company are set to perform their eagerly awaited weekly 60-minute version of a classic; tonight it’s ‘A Christmas Carol’. Only things aren’t too Christmassy: it’s ten minutes to ON-AIR and legendary Scrooge Lionel Barrymore has fallen sick, and now Orson has to step into his shoes; plus the script still isn’t right, his cast are revolting after three days of rehearsing without sleep, and the pressure’s on after the success of ‘War of the Worlds’: the Nation awaits and Hollywood’s watching! Will this Christmas Carol have a happy ending?

The show includes ‘A Christmas Carol’ performed in the 1930s American radio style with live sound effects and carols. Suitable for ages eight and up.

Tickets are €18 or €15 concession and available at whaletheatre.ie.
