Connolly sisters to the fore in Junior ‘B’ semi-final
THE bad weather on Tuesday and Wednesday led to a few postponements but a small number of games were played during the week.
The semi-final of the Junior ‘B’ camogie championship was played in Avondale on Thursday.
Avondale played with the assistance of a strong wind in the first half and led by 2-0 to 0-0 at half-time, the goals coming from Katie Earls and Kayleigh Fox.
Gaelcholáiste na Mara needed a good start to the second half with wind advantage but it was the Rathdrum school that scored two early goals to give them a commanding lead.
With the Connolly sisters, Aoife and Ciara, to the fore the Arklow school began to exert more pressure but seemed to lack the finishing touches.
However goals by Sabha Van Der Heide and Aoife Connolly brought them right back into the game.
Avondale finished the stronger adding two more goals for a deserved victory.
In a well-balanced Avondale side, team captain Emma Byrne, Emma Shannon, Kayleigh Fox and Skye Byrne were most prominent.
On the Gaelcholáiste team, apart from the Connolly sisters there were good displays from goalkeeper Grace Glavin, Grace Furlong and Aoife Prendergast.
