Positive year reflected on

Avoca clubs celebrate

- BRENDAN LAWRENCE

AFTER an enjoyable and progressive season on the playing fields the players of Avoca GAA and Camogie clubs let their hair down recently at the joint dinner dance that was held in the Woodenbridge Hotel.

All managers and coaches from all the teams across the age groups were thanked on the night for their efforts with all the teams.

There were a number of awards presented on the night.

The Players Player of the Year award went to two deserving men in the form of Rob Whelan and Anto Doran.

The impressive Andy Doyle scooped the young Player of the Year award while the tenacious Mikey Fahy was unveiled as the overall player of the year after a stunning season for the young Avoca man.

The Clubperson of the Year award was won by the indominitable Mick Fahy.

Speakers on the night included Mark O’Neill, manager of the Avoca Junior ‘B’ football team that reached the county final where they fell to a strong Hollywood side.

Mark thanked all the players for their huge efforts during the year and reminded them of the progress they had made and the potential that exists within the team going forward.

Wicklow GAA Chairman Martin Fitzgerald was in attandance and he addressed the crowd and congratulated the GAA club on reaching the county decider.

Music on the night was provided by Big Digger and a great night was had by all with a sense of optimism pervading.
