Avoca clubs cel­e­brate

AF­TER an en­joy­able and pro­gres­sive sea­son on the play­ing fields the play­ers of Avoca GAA and Camo­gie clubs let their hair down re­cently at the joint din­ner dance that was held in the Wood­en­bridge Ho­tel.

All man­agers and coaches from all the teams across the age groups were thanked on the night for their ef­forts with all the teams.

There were a num­ber of awards pre­sented on the night.

The Play­ers Player of the Year award went to two de­serv­ing men in the form of Rob Whe­lan and Anto Do­ran.

The im­pres­sive Andy Doyle scooped the young Player of the Year award while the tena­cious Mikey Fahy was un­veiled as the over­all player of the year af­ter a stun­ning sea­son for the young Avoca man.

The Clubper­son of the Year award was won by the in­do­minitable Mick Fahy.

Speak­ers on the night in­cluded Mark O’Neill, man­ager of the Avoca Ju­nior ‘B’ foot­ball team that reached the county fi­nal where they fell to a strong Hol­ly­wood side.

Mark thanked all the play­ers for their huge ef­forts dur­ing the year and re­minded them of the progress they had made and the po­ten­tial that ex­ists within the team go­ing for­ward.

Wick­low GAA Chair­man Martin Fitzger­ald was in at­tan­dance and he ad­dressed the crowd and con­grat­u­lated the GAA club on reach­ing the county de­cider.

Mu­sic on the night was pro­vided by Big Dig­ger and a great night was had by all with a sense of op­ti­mism per­vad­ing.
