Drinkers sacrifice their ‘freebie’ for Christmas
December 1983
DRINKERS in Bray will have to do without their free Christmas hand-outs again this year to make way for a large donation to charity.
For local publicans continued with the step taken last year to sacrifice the free Christmas drinks to customers for a hefty contribution to three charities.
The donations from pubs came to a total of £6,000.
The Bray committee for St Catherine’s School for Mentally Handicapped received £2,500, the same amount went to the Open Door Centre for handicapped adults while the Christ Church restoration fund received £1,000.
The cheques were passed over to the charities at a special function at the Oldcourt Lounge on tuesday night and expressions of thanks forwarded to the publicans and customers.
