CHRISTMAS MARKET

Donoughmor­e and Donard Christmas Market takes place on Saturday, December 8, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Donoughmor­e Hall. You can visit all the usual stalls: cakes, toys, bric-à-brac and others; enjoy tea, mince pies and hot chocolate. Admission is free.

FOOTBALL CLUB NOTES

The football club AGM was held in Donard Hall last Friday night and nearly everyone there got a job.Fr Eamonn is club patron. Seán Byrne, Pat O’Neill and Paddy Toomey are presidents. Colm Toomey is chairman with Laurence Daly Vice-chairperso­n. Jerome Kelly is still secretary with Séamus Daly his assistant. Conor Healy is the new treasurer assisted by Eoin Kelly. Shane Kelly is Juvenile secretary. Brendan Daly will look after the fixtures. Brendan Daly and Colm Toomey are joint Registrars. Niall Curran and Colm O’Neill are now health and Well Being Officers. Ray Halloran and Alan Daly are the players’ representa­tives. Culture Officer is Jerome Kelly.

The County Board Officers are Peter Case and Mick Walshe backed up by Amanda Butler and Brian Lennon. Tadgh Fennin will be Club Trainer with Keith Furlong and Brendan Daly his helpers. Barry Metcalfe and Paddy Toomey will look after the junior team. Last but not least is Larry Daly, who will be grounds man.

There was no winner of the jackpot last week. Nora O’Neill and the Tatty Family matched three and won €100 each. The jackpot now stands at €7,500.

CAROL SERVICE

The annual Christmas Candleligh­t Carol Service will take place in Donard Church on Sunday, December 16, at 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come along and share in this lovely meaningful service and get away from the hustle and bustle of the hectic preparatio­ns for Christmas. We look forward to seeing you there.

RORY’S STORIES

The very popular Rory’s Stories will be in Germaine’s, Baltinglas­s on January 25, 2019, at 8.30 p.m. Tickets €15 each, over16s only. A whist drive will take place on Thursday, December 6, at 8.30 p.m. in the Jonathan Swift hall.

CHRISTMAS CARDS

This year’s Christmas cards for Friedreich’s Ataxia research have just gone on sale. There are lots of new designs and hopefully there should be something to suit all tastes. They are great value at 15 Irish made cards for €8 of which €5 goes directly to the charity. They are available at all the following outlets.

The Friedreich’s Ataxia organisati­on (www, farairelan­d.ie) has supported two different research projects during 2018 to the tune of €14,000. TURNING ON THE LIGHTS

entitled ‘With Much Quiet Fervour’ on the history of Dunlavin Catholic Parish and St Nicholas of Myra Church was launched at the harvest festival. The book is now on sale in the parish office, at the back of the church, Ed’s Fruit and Veg and Whelan’s Pharmacy. The 80 paged book costs €5 and would be of interest to people both within and beyond the parish. It would also make a very nice gift to send to locals who are living abroad. All proceeds from the sale of the book go to the parish. Would make a great little Christmas present for a loved one.

CULTURE BUS

The Culture Bus will travel to Dublin on December 16 leaving Dunlavin at 11 a.m. and leaving Dublin at 6 p.m. Soak up the Christmas atmosphere with Vladamir’s Viennese Christmas in the Concert Hall at 3 p.m. A very nice Art Exhibition running in the Chester Beatty Library (Free) To book a seat on the bus for the trip telephone 097 9693960. FRIENDSHIP CLUB

The friendship club is meeting every Friday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the parish centre. New members always welcome.

THE FOLK GROUP

We’re at midday Mass on the second Sunday of the month and 10 a.m. Mass on the fourth Sunday of the month. We’re always open to new members We practice after Mass, you don’t need to be able to read music to join in the singing and there’s no pressure to attend every time.

We enjoy singing uplifting modern hymns as well as a few of the beautiful traditiona­l ones. If you’re interested in joining us, contact Suzanne at 087 2977794 or speak to one of us after Mass.

CLINIC

TD John Brady will hold a clinic in Dunlavin parish centre on the second Monday of each month from 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. All welcome to drop in.

The Friendship Club are visiting Newbridge Silverware on December 5 where they will as always do their Christmas Shopping and finish off with Afternoon Tea. There will be no Friendship Club at the centre on December 5. we will meet on December 12 as usual 2.15 p.m. to 4.15 p.m. and we take our Christmas Holidays till Wednesday, January 9. We wish all our members a very Happy and Peaceful Christmas and New Year.

SENIOR CITIZENS PARTY

The senior citizens Christmas party will be on Thursday, December 13, in the Hollywood Inn. Meal at 3 p.m. Song and dance till 8 p.m. We wish all 95 members an enjoyable evening.

PARISH CHRISTMAS RAFFLE

The Parish Christmas Raffle will be held after evening Mass on Saturday, December 15. Boys and Girls Santa may call by on a brief visit - so we await in anticipati­on.

JUVENILE BADMINTON
