WICKLOW’S Christmas Market experienced an influx of visitors for its opening two days on Saturday and Sunday in the Abbey Grounds.

The market continues from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on December 15, 16 and 22 with Santa Claus due to visit this weekend.

Main organiser Ed Horgan was delighted with the large footfall passing through the gates of the Abbey Grounds over both Saturday and Sunday.

‘The town was really buzzing, especially on Sunday when the weather conditions picked up a bit. I know there weren’t any car park spaces from the Abbey side of the town all the way up to Leitrim Place. People came in their absolute droves and we had a huge number of visitors from Dublin and elsewhere. We would be expecting similar, if not larger crowds, this weekend, especially with Santa Claus paying us a visit.

‘The market is bang in the centre of the town so you had loads of people heading into the town as well to buy stuff. I was talking to one publican and they said their business was up massively from a normal Sunday. So far I think the market has provided the town with a real boost,’ said Ed.

Visitors to the Christmas Market can expect a craft market, beverages, Santa Claus, entertainment, Artisan goods, food, decorations, Christmas trees, a funfair and gingerbread decorating workshops.

Avonmore Dairies will bring the Mrs Claus pop-up kitchen to the Christmas Market on December 15 and 16 from noon to 6 p.m. where visitors can taste mince pies, chocolate brownies and some apple pie all topped with an Avonmore cream of their choice. The market will also be hosting an Alpaca experience where adults and children will get a chance to mingle with all things woolly.
