Rockin’ around the Roundwood tree
A LARGE crowd of revellers braved the elements on Saturday for the official switching on of the Christmas lights in Roundwood.
Festive hats and jumpers were all at the ready as over 50 people gathered around the Christmas tree, which is located in the grounds of Roundwood Garda Station.
The family orientated occasion began with the singing of a selection of all-time-classic Christmas carols.
Cllr Shay Cullen had the honour of turning on the lights. He also had a message for anyone seeking to purchase the ideal gift this Christmas.
‘The weather was a big wet and rainy but that didn’t put people off from attending. The main message from the Roundwood and District Community Council would be to support your local shops over the festive period. There is a great sense of community spirit in Roundwood, as is evident through all the work carried out over the past twelve months on the Vartry Walks and other projects taking place.
‘People who live here take great pride in their area and local business need you support over Christmas. Our message would be to shop local and support local businesses,’ said Cllr Cullen.
Everyone headed over to Roundwood Parish Hall once the Christmas lights had been switched on where they enjoyed some mulled wine and other seasonal treats.
