Designers inspire new paint range
GENERAL Paints Group has launched its new designer paint brand, Curator, in collaboration with some of Ireland’s finest artists and designers, three of whom live in Wicklow.
Curator comprises 144 paint colours, inspired by 29 Irish designers in a celebration of the creativity and talent in Ireland. Niki Purcell, Anne Gregory and Elaine Tomlin are amongst the 29 talented designers involved. Niki Purcell has championed the Curator colour, Rolling Harvest. Niki works primarily with oil paints, using gestural strokes to build up textured layers of paint. Situated on the border between Wicklow and Wexford, she is highly influenced by the landscape and seascape of her surroundings. Describing her influences, Niki said: ‘The farming fields of my homeplace, gave rise to the beautiful wheat tone, Rolling Harvest’.
Anne Gregory of Newtownmountkennedy has been designing wedding gowns for the past 20 years. Her designs balance modern elegance and traditional design, while adding a personal touch to each dress.
Dublin native, Elaine Tomlin is an Irish artist, textile and product designer. Elaine is inspired by nature and her love of the Wicklow landscape, such as the wonderful woodlands and lakes around Glendalough and Laragh, and the beach of Brittas Bay. She said: ‘On the forest floors of Wicklow, between the trees, falls Woodland Light – an abstract work of colour and shadow that has inspired this illuminating tone, which is also found in my paintings’.
