Doyle departs coaching after five years

-

WICKLOW GAA’S coaching officer Eoin Doyle came to the end of his five-year term in the position on Monday night last. He was returned a short while later as hurling officer so he will not be missing from the landscape of the county in 2019 by any stretch of the imagination.

The Avondale GAA club member paid tribute to Hugh Kenny in his address to convention.

‘Ladies and gentlemen, it’s the end of my term as coaching officer.

‘I took on my role five years. I felt at the time that I didn’t have the time or the experience to carry out the job properly. It’s only in the last couple of years that I’ve got a better handle on it.

‘Anyone I came across in the last few years have been a brilliant help to me, from the County Board to all the club people. There are absolutely brilliant people involved in coaching and games at club level all across Wicklow.

‘There’s one person I want to thank personally, and it’s the only person I’m going to name. And that’s Hugh Kenny.

‘I’ve been involved with Hugh for a long time, since the early 90s, as selector on under-21 and Senior football teams.

‘Hugh has given his whole life as a player and as games manager to Wicklow GAA. He was first appointed in the early 90s. He’s given massive service and he continues to give massive service and the work he has done in coaching in Wicklow knows no bounds. In that respect, I saw myself as a support for Hugh’.

‘Just on that note I’ll say thanks very much and I wish whoever takes over the best of luck,’ he added.
