Future is what you make it

-

WICKLOW GAA President Fr. Liam Dunne opened proceedings at Monday night’s county convention.

He appealed for people to not let their personal opinions warp what they had decided to bring forward to be discussed and he encouraged people to commit to bettering the organisation.

‘This is a busy night, this annual convention. It is a time of year when the past is reviewed, the present is debated and changes made, and the future is planned for,’ he said.

‘This convention tonight is not just a get-together. It is where you acknowledge in an honest way and put forward truthfully what you feel and believe is best for our association.

‘Of course, most of the preparations should have been debated and done in your own clubs so that tonight you are ready to take off. So, don’t let personal feelings warp what you have decided and brought forward for discussion tonight.

‘We all want to improve the future, but, again, it all depends on our outlook, on our plans and on one’s commitment.

‘That word, ‘commitment’, seems to have gone out of vogue at the present time in the society we are living in. People are slow to take on commitments for any length of time at all, no matter how sacred or important it might be. So keep that in mind always.

‘The past is gone; the present is here in your hands. And the future will be what you make of your decisions here tonight.
