SUPER AVONMORE HIT ARKLOW CELTIC FOR SIX Impressive table-toppers turn on style in Division 1 clash

at Pat O’Toole Park

bring the game to 3-1 on the 50th minute.

Celtic made some substitutions early in the second half as they wanted to try and grab another goal back to put some pressure on their hosts.

Jay Rowlands went close moments after he was introduced from the bench, the striker rose above everyone in the penalty area but his header from a Mark Wolohan cross was too tame for Porter in goal as it didn’t challenge the keeper.

Avonmore grabbed another goal on the 61st minute as Adam Tuke got his second of the game with another great run down the left wing, he cut inside into the box beating the Arklow defence and slotting the ball past the Celtic keeper.

Celtic managed to put some pressure on a strong Avonmore defence late in the second half and the cracks were starting to show as the away side snatched a goal back on the 75th minute, as substitute Jay Rowlands squared to Brian Thompson who slotted the ball into the net to bring the game back to 4-2.

Unfortunately for the travelling side their chances of a comeback were dashed as a wonder strike from Pursey to seal his hat-trick on the 80th minute and a tidy finish from Ryan Cahill in the 88th minute meant that the three points were secured for the home side as the game ended in a 6-2 victory for Avonmore.

Avonmore were put under pressure late in the second half from their opponents but the home side may feel like the game was there’s for the taking early in the game as their first half performance gave them a three-goal cushion going into the second half.

Avonmore will hope that they can take confidence in their performance on Sunday into their next league fixture.

The home side will definitely be hoping if they put in more performances like this that they will be challenging for the title at the end of the season.
