TRANSITION YEAR NEWS

The TY students in St Kilian’s have had a very busy opening term. They have just returned from a week’s Work Experience from November 5 to November 9. Students benefit enormously from work experience and the reports from the employers in the area and the TY students themselves about the experience was extremely positive. Well done to all our students and thanks to all the local businesses who took in and trained our students during the work experience.

In addition, the TYs have experienced many fun activities in the first term. In September, the whole year group went to the National Ploughing Championship in Tullamore. In October, a large group of 50 students went

The Fifth and Sixth year groups went separately to the theatre over the past week. The Fifth years went to see Hamlet in the Civic Theatre Tallaght whereas the Sixth years travelled to the Smock Alley Theatre to see Macbeth.

Both productions were of an extremely high standard. Each group were very positive about what they saw and learned. The experience of live theatre is a hugely valuable experience for students as it brings the text to life for them. Furthermore, the Q & A sessions at each production helped the students as they listened to the actors’ interpreting how they played their characters and students were able to raise issues that they had become aware of from watching the plays live on stage.

Kilian’s students made excellent contributions and prompted some very thought-provoking discussions. The Higher Level sixth year English classes, together with their teachers Mr Kelly and Ms Kavanagh, were delighted with the performance, particularly Lady Macbeth.

Thanks to Ms Kavanagh, Mr Kelly and Ms Taaffe for facilitating the theatre trips.
