TY CAREERS OUTING
TY students travelled to NUI Maynooth for the annual open day at the university. NUI Maynooth has proved to be a popular option for CB students due to the diverse range of top class degree programmes in the college. It was lovely to meet past student Krystian, who is in his final year in Accounting and Finance.
COMHAIRLE NA NÓG
On Friday, November 16, 14 members of our Student Council team travelled to Newtownmountkennedy to represent the school at Comhairle na nÓg. The main theme of the day was drug issues among our youth. Students took part in various group activities where they each got the opportunity to voice their opinions. They had an enjoyable day and showed great pride in representing their school.
SENIOR HURLING
The CB Senior Hurling campaign came to an end against a very strong Grennan College Thomastown on Thursday last, in the south Leinster semi-final. The CB boys took a while to settle but improved as the first half came to a close.
With the benefit of the breeze in the second half, they started strongly with a couple of early scores but Grennan responded with a goal and CB just couldn’t get back into the game from that point. A huge thank you to those sixth year students who played their hearts out for the school over the years.
GIRLS SENIOR FOOTBALL
The girls senior football enjoyed a victory over Dominican College Wicklow in a hard fought contest in Carnew on Thursday, December 6, The first half was nip and tuck as both sides squandered some good goal chances. The Carnew ladies were two points to the good at half time. However, things could have been much different but for the heroics of Shona Byrne in goal.
Playing with the wind in the second half, the CB ladies soon gained control of the game. However, two quick goals from the wicklow side left only three points between the teams with 10 minutes to play. Fortunately two well taken goals by Sarah Doyle resulted in a final scoreline of 3-17 to 3-9 in favour of Coláiste Bhríde.
This was a very hard working performance by the entire team including the six subs who came on. We now await our opposition in the county final in the Spring. Well done, girls.
CAMOGIE
The Coláiste Bhríde girls showed great spirit in this game on Monday, November 26, in a game they could very easily have won. The girls started brightly and after 10 minutes were level with the strong Offaly outfit. However, it was the 10 minutes before half time and five minutes after half time which saw Coláiste Bhríde slip to a 15-point deficit.
For the remaining 25 minutes however, they dominated and only for some fine saves from the opposition goalkeeper the girls could easily be looking forward to a Leinster semi-final after Christmas but unfortunately it was not to be for this talented and hard working group. The girls should be really proud of their performance as over half the panel consisted of junior players.

SECOND YEAR GOQUEST TRIP
animals become permanent members of the Ash family. To date they have survived on the generosity of friends, sponsors, volunteers and donors but are now struggling for funds and are appealing for any possible help. Terry Kenny, a volunteer for the sanctuary together with her dog Lucy visited the school on December 6 to talk to our first and second year students to help develop an awareness of the plight of the abandoned animals.
This visit was organised as part of their CSPE course. The students had highlighted that pets were crucial to their well-being. CSPE is centred around a student’s well-being and the wider community. Currently students are learning about responsibilities and rights including animal rights.
Terry informed the girls of the huge running costs of the sanctuary, €180,000 a year. A €30,000 grant from the Department of Agriculture stills leaves them with a deficit of €150,000. Terry told the girls that the Christmas period was a particularly busy time for them with so many unwanted gifted pets. The girls were shocked to learn that people would actually bring their old dog to the sanctuary in order to get a new pup for Christmas.
The girls all agreed the Ash Rescue centre did an amazing job and all donated a euro of their own money to the centre and some brought in food for the animals. Many of the girls were so touched by the stories of some of the Ash residents that they are determined to help further in the future. The girls hope to raise €250 for Ash Rescue by selling Christmas cards which cost €4 per packet and calendars which cost €5. Ash welcome visitors to their centre six days a week (not open to the public on Fridays) so if you feel you could offer a furry friend a forever home please pay a visit.
HOCKEY
of the game. Raphaelas scored in the first half but the Dominican girls were looking for the equalizer right up to the final 10 minutes. Unfortunately a lucky deflection led to the second goal for Raphaelas.
Regular goalie Ellen Griffen was unable to play so Amy Kavanagh, normally on the right wing stepped up. She had an absolutely brilliant game keeping the girls in which a chance of taking two points from the game. Despite losing the game both players and coach were delighted with the performance.
For the last league game the girls will travel to play Manor House and this will take place early in January. Best of luck to the minor hockey team who will play host to Our Lady’s Terenure before the Christmas holidays. Basketball.
The senior basketball team have had a fantastic season to date winning all their games comfortably. They are now at the semi-final stages of the Co. Wicklow League and will battle it out with St Killian’s for a place in the final. We wish the team and their coach Ms Kelly the very best of luck.
STUDENT COUNCIL
The Student Council meet with Ms Fallon once every two weeks to discuss issues arising from the general student body, upcoming events or to plan their next fundraising event.
Currently they are planning their Christmas fundraiser-The Christmas Jumper day which will take place on Thursday, December 20. This non-uniform day will raise funds for two different charities one of which will be local. The charities to benefit will be decided at their next meeting. All students are encouraged to dig out their Christmas jumpers and get involved in the festivities on the 20th. Prizes will be awarded for the best festive outfit.
SENIOR GAELIC
The senior girls were defeated in the semi-final of the Wicklow Schools Championships by Carnew in a very entertaining game on Thursday. Playing with a very strong wind in the first half the DCW girls were thwarted on several occasions by excellent goalkeeping that kept Carnew in the game. With the aid of the wind in the second half Carnew were able to pull away and were good value for their win despite the best efforts of the girls. Ellen Griffen made a number of good saves, with both Eva and Kellie Phelan steadfast in defence. Niamh Caffrey and Naoise O’Reilly contributed well in attack. Well done to all on a great team effort.
Our Junior girls travel to Blessington on Monday to play their semi-final.
