A Very Special Advent Calendar Online: Some daily spiritual treats and surprises for Advent. It is easy to get caught up in the Christmas rush and forget what this beautiful season is really about. A different kind of preparation can nourish our souls and refresh, or even transform, our lives – and for those of us with children, it can be a precious time to grow closer both to God and to each other. Open your computer or mobile phone and google ‘Irish Catholic Bishops Advent Calendar 2018’ for a treasure of resources that are different every day. Your children will enjoy ‘opening the door’ with a click. Like all good Advent Calendars, you are only allowed to open one door each day – in fact, peeking ahead is not possible as the ‘doors’ remain locked till early in the morning of the right day. But you are allowed to go back and explore any of the doors from previous days that you may have missed opening. What kinds of surprises await you? Lovely pictures; a short ‘Thought for the Day’ audio reflection; a short music video; a link to the beautiful scripture readings from Mass, presented with pictures and followed by a reflection; suggestions for ‘Random Acts of Kindness’, Advent prayers or blessings; a substantial extract from Pope Francis’s writings or homilies; and much more. You could take a short time daily with your family, a longer time as an individual. Enjoy. Happy Advent. From Your Parish Pastoral Council.
