Remembering those lives lost at sea

-

ALL those who have lost their lives at sea were honoured on New Year’s Day as Wicklow RNLI held its annual service of remembrance.

The service is also designed to recognise all the deceased lifeboat volunteer members, sailors from the town and all those associated with the sea from Wicklow.

A short religious prayer service and blessing of wreaths was conducted by Reverend Ken Rue and Father Pat O’Rourke. After the blessing, Coxswain Nick Keogh and the lifeboat crew took the floral tribute out to sea and placed them on the water.

This years’ ceremony was very poignant for the volunteer crew as it will be the final Service of Remembrance for the all-weather lifeboat RNLB Annie Blaker. The Tyne class lifeboat boat which has been on station at Wicklow for the past thirty years, will be retired from service in the coming months.
