Active Retirement

Another successful and interesting season for Wicklow Active Retirement came a conclusion with a most enjoyable Christmas lunch, well organised by Phyllis Whyte.

Over 70 members sat down to traditional seasonal fare in the Chester Beatty Hotel in Ashford. The food and friendly service made for a most pleasant afternoon, which ended with dancing to music from the Daly brothers.

Earlier in the month, a group of embarked on a coach to Dublin to visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral where they were welcomed by the Dean’s Vicar and offered refreshments while they listened to a most interesting talk describing the history of the Cathedral.

Members were then free to explore and admire the many and varied areas of this fascinating building. Some then visited the wonderful Marsh’s Library close by. After a light lunch everyone then returned to Wicklow.

Wicklow Active Retirement have some theatrical visits booked for January and February. On Saturday, January 19, they are booked to see Come From Away in the Abbey Theatre, a new musical. Then on Thursday, February 21, members are going to see The Cripple of Inishmaan in the Gaiety Theatre. Both shows have been very well received by public and critics alike.

The Association meets every Tuesday at 10.45 a.m. in the De La Salle Pastoral Centre beside St. Patrick’s Church and new members are always assured of a warm welcome.
