First Avon­dale park run of 2019 draws a crowd


ONE-HUN­DRED-AND FOUR­TEEN peo­ple par­tic­i­pated in the first Satur­day park run of the new year at Avon­dale For­est Park.

Of those tak­ing part, 34 were first timers and nine recorded new per­sonal bests. Over­all there were rep­re­sen­ta­tives pres- ent from nine dif­fer­ent clubs.

There was also a warm wel­come to Avon­dale for some tourists who usu­ally in­volve them­selves in the park runs at Russ­bor­ough House and Tralee.

The 5k event takes place at Avon­dale ev­ery Satur­day morn­ing at 9.30 a.m. It’s free but you must regis­ter to par­tic­i­pate be­fore your first run.

The park run due to take place on Satur­day, Fe­bru­ary 23, at Avon­dale is can­celled due to the Wick­low Hos­pice Foun­da­tion 5k, 10k and half marathon. To avail of early bird prices book be­fore the end of Jan­uary by vis­it­ing­splain­sail­ club/wick­lowhos­pice. There will be a 9 a.m. start time, with reg­is­tra­tion start­ing at 8 a.m..
