Ladies celebrate Little Christmas and raise funds for local causes
THE festive season was rounded off in style at the Woodenbridge Hotel on Sunday as 200 ladies came together to celebrate Little Christmas at the annual charity Nollaig na mBan Ladies Lunch.
The Little Christmas Ladies Lunch has become a popular and glamorous affair for the ladies of Arklow over recent years, and this year was no different.
This year, the three Best Dressed ladies selected were; the Autumn Lady, sponsored by McMullan’s Arklow, was Brenda Tyrrell; the Summer Lady, sponsored by Bridgewater Shopping Centre, was Caroline Lynch; and the Spring Lady, sponsored by Fayebella, was Niamh Byrne.
The Arklow Town Team, who organised this year’s event, took up the mantle from the Arklow Lions Club, after the club was disbanded last year due to falling volunteer numbers.
At Sunday’s event Allison Ryder of the Arklow Town Team said ‘We would like to thank the Arklow Lions Club and acknowledge the fantastic work that they have done in raising money for local charities for many years. The Arklow Town Team is delighted to be able to continue the tradition of celebrating Little Christmas, while also raising money for local causes.’
Proceeds of the event will be divided equally between the Arklow Community Action Resource Centre and an Arklow Town Team project.
Arklow Town Team, in conjunction with the Arklow Municipal District Council, is currently working on a number of projects including the Arklow Pottery Museum, and has recently been successful in securing CCTV for the town, as well as redevelopment of the Arklow Historic core at the Parade Ground and Courthouse.
A monster raffle also took place with over 30 hampers and prizes donated by local businesses including Adrian Dunne Pharmacy, Bridgewater Shopping Centre, Woodenbridge Hotel, Next Door Off-licence and Sweeney’s Garage.
