Wicklow Cup first round

Andy McEvoy Premier Division high-flyers St Peter’s showed no mercy to Coolboy Rangers as they hit them for 12 goals without reply in their Wicklow Cup first round clash on Sunday.

Killian O’Carroll, Niall Vaughan, Jake Kane and Chad Ryan all helped themselves to doubles for the Bray outfit, with Rian Greene, Jamie Kelly and Tony Harris also getting in on the act and an own goal adding to their handsome tally.

Avonmore FC’s first team were understandably too strong for their second string, running out comprehensive 9-0 winners with doubles from Callum Pursey, Cian O hAnnain and Mark Miley and a goal apiece from Paul Gahan, Ryan Cahill and Adam Tuke.

Dargle Rovers booked their place in the second round with a 2-1 home win against previously unbeaten Dearg Celtic.

Two goals in the second-half from Allen Harris earned the victory for Rovers, while Michael Murphy hit the back of the net for the Redcross men.

Wicklow Rovers edged past Aughrim Rangers 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw.

Stuart Cox gave Rovers a 1-0 half-time lead from the penalty spot.

The home side levelled, with Stephen Doyle also scoring from the spot to send the game to extra-time.

The additional periods failed to produce a winner so it was on to the dreaded penalty shoot-out. Stuart Cox, Robert Talaga, Hugh Humby and Adam Cuddihy were all successful with their spot-kicks with Colin Smullen producing a vital penalty save to see Rovers progress to the next round.

Arklow United ‘B’ are also safely through to round two after a 3-2 victory away to Newtown United ‘B’.

Graham Heaney, Luke Walker and Paul Nolan got the goals for the winners.

Johnny Carton and Christy Moorehouse (two) got the goals for Wicklow Town AFC in their 3-1 win over Carnew AFC ‘B’, with Darren Jordan replying.

St Anthony’s marched on courtesy of a 3-0 triumph over Roundwood AFC (see focus match).

Meanwhile, Carnew AFC’s first team progressed without having to kick a ball as they were handed a walkover from Arklow United ‘C’. Arklow Town 2 1 0 1 6 Avonmore 11001 Arklow Utd 00000 Aughrim Rgs 0 0 0 0 0 Ashford Rvs 1 0 0 1 3 4 0 0 0 6 3 3 0 0 0
