Our Se­nior ‘B’ team were back in ac­tion at the week­end when they trav­elled to take on Aughrim Rangers in the Wick­low Cup.

A very youth­ful Rovers won 4-3 on penal­ties af­ter the teams were all square at 1-1 af­ter ex­tra-time. Stu­art Cox gave Rovers a 1-0 half­time lead from the penalty spot.

The home side lev­elled also from the spot to send the game to ex­tra-time.

This failed to pro­duce a win­ner so it was on to the dreaded penalty shootout.

Stu­art Cox, Robert Ta­laga, Hugh Humby and Adam Cud­dihy were all suc­cess­ful with their spot­kicks with Colin Smullen pro­duc­ing a vi­tal penalty save to see Rovers progress to the next round.

Two dates have been sched­uled for open train­ing ses­sions for our un­der-12s (born 2007) and un­der-16s (born 2003), the un­der-12s will take place at White­gates on Satur­day, Jan­uary 19, from 10am to 11.30am with the un­der-16s open ses­sion tak­ing place on Wed­nes­day, Jan­uary 9, in the Rocky Road from 7pm to 8.30pm. New play­ers are wel­comed to at­tend.

If you’re in­ter­ested in play­ing at the age groups above and are un­able to at­tend you should make con­tact with the fol­low­ing peo­ple, for the un­der-12 age group you should con­tact Enda Dunne by email at [email protected]­port­sroom.ie.

Our un­der-14 DDSL Ma­jor team will be hold­ing an open train­ing ses­sion this Satur­day, Jan­uary 12, at White­gates.

It starts at 12 noon and is open to all play­ers born in 2005. Ex­ist­ing and new play­ers wel­comed to at­tend, if you want to be con­sid­ered and are un­able to at­tend you should con­tact Keith Earls at 087-2837042.

Wick­low Rovers AFC pro­mote soc­cer for school­boys/girls, youths and se­niors men and ladies in the com­mu­nity. Our club is grow­ing all the time and any as­sis­tance with the help of run­ning the club would be very much ap­pre­ci­ated.

At present we have a very hard work­ing com­mit­tee but we are al­ways on the look­out for peo­ple in­ter­ested in help­ing out.

The club are al­ways on the look­out for peo­ple who are in­ter­ested in get­ting in­volved in soc­cer, whether its coach­ing and manag­ing or on the ex­ec­u­tive com­mit­tee or a sub­com­mit­tee.

Maybe you would just like to help as an as­sis­tant man­ager, help with fundrais­ing or help just around the grounds or in any way at all, don’t hes­i­tate, get in­volved, any­one in­ter­ested in help­ing out the club in any­way can con­tact any com­mit­tee mem­ber.
