NEWTOWN GAA

After an absence of some time, Newtown GAA is delighted to announce the return of our annual Presentati­on Banquet/dinner dance. This event will take place on Saturday, January 26, in the Parkview Hotel. Doors open at 7.30 p.m., and the meal will be served at 8 p.m. Music by the amazing Men In Black. Admission is €35 by ticket only. Tickets on sale in post office or from any committee member. It promises to be a great night so get your tickets early.

The AGM held early in December will re-convene on Wednesday, January 16, for the main purpose of electing a club secretary. An executive committee will then be elected.

Newtown GAA extend our sympathies to the Healy family on the passing of Michael Healy. Michael was a member of a prominent GAA family and sadly passed away before Christmas, may he rest in peace.

YOGA CLASSES

The next term of Yoga Classes is starting on Wednesdays January 9 6 p.m. to 7.15 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. at the space behind the Corner House Village Practice. This class is suitable for all levels of experience and beginners are very welcome. Cost: €65 for six class or €15 drop in. Reduced rates are possible also. Booking is essential. MINDFULNES­S CLASSES

Our next three Week Mindfulnes­s Course is starting on Monday, January 14, from 7.45 p.m. to 8.45 p.m. This Course will specifical­ly teach Mindfulnes­s Skills for managing Stress and Anxiety. No previous experience necessary. Cost: €35 for three weeks or €13 drop in. Booking essential. Please contact Angelika at 087 2176068.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

It’s great to get back to the nitty gritty thought on field action will be scarce for a while as the new WDSL season won’t be up and running till the end of February. However, there will be Futsal for some of our teams at the end of Jan/beginning of Feb. Our Developmen­t Squad will be back training after the festive break on Saturday, January 19, in the community centre 10.11 a.m. In the coming weeks we will be announcing details regards FAI.

After a couple of weeks of a break we need to catch up on some birthday wishes so here goes, the following players are all celebratin­g their birthdays around this time, Scott O’Toole and James McDermott from the Developmen­t Squad, David McCormack from the under-eights, Alex Ryan from the under-nines, Sebastian Anton from the under-10s, Naoise Lowe and PJ Duffy from the under-11s and last but not least Laragh Davis from our under-14s. Happy birthday to every player from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC.

Our next Last Man Standing competitio­n will start back in January 2019 (date tbc), so if you would like to take part please let any committee member or coach know and they will fill you in with all the informatio­n you require.

On a sadder note the club would like to extend their deepest sympathies to the families and friends of Hannah Kavanagh (Sycamore Drive), Michael Healy (St Patrick’s Road, Joe Delaney (Brittas Bay), John Franey (Rathnew) and Siobhán Dunne (Wicklow/Rathnew) who all sadly passed away recently. May they all RIP.
