This is the fourth year of the awards, which recognise the great work being done by young people in communities throughout County Wicklow.

Awards will be considered for young people who, by their presence, make their communities or society in general, a better place to live in. There will also be awards for groups of two or more young people whose combined efforts contributed positively to their communities or others in general. Special Achievement awards will be considered for young people who have defied the odds or overcome difficulties during their lives.

In a new category this year, the Community Safety Award, an individual will be rewarded for making their community a safer place to live through a crime prevention or safety initiative or innovation.’

The awards are for young people aged between 13 and 21, permanently living in County Wicklow and the awards ceremony will be held in March.

This year the Garda Youth Awards have gone national and all of the forms and judging procedures have been standardised.

The nominee that achieves the highest score in each of the four categories will be sent forward to the National Garda Youth Awards Competition, which will be held in the Garda Training College in Tipperary in April 2019.

Nomination forms can be obtained via the Facebook page ‘Wicklow Garda Youth Awards’ or by emailing emma.j.skinner@ Garda.ie. Completed nomination forms must be returned to Garda Skinner at Bray Garda Station, Convent Avenue, Bray, Co Wicklow, by Monday next, February 4. THE national AGM of the Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) will take place in Co Wicklow for the first time on Sunday, January 27.
