WE LOVE ART

Art and crafts classes for children of primary school age take place on Monday afternoons. Classes cover a wide range of art and craft techniques and processes, giving kids an outlet for creative self-expression while learning new skills. Classes are small and places must be reserved in advance, the first class is free for new students. Almha Roche is a profession­al artist and an experience­d and qualified art teacher.

ADULT ART CLASSES

Wednesday morning drawing and painting classes are suitable for beginners as well as more experience­d painters. Students choose the medium (s) with which they wish to work, and develop their interests and personal style with Almha’s advice and guidance. If you are thinking of getting back into your art, or trying something new to explore your creative side, now is a good time. DRAMA SCHOOL

Drama classes are a fantastic way of developing confidence and encouragin­g creativity and imaginatio­n. Drama modules will incorporat­e improvisat­ion, mime, script work, vocal training and acting skills. Students will also learn from the Irish Board of Speech and Drama syllabus and be afforded opportunit­ies to take graded examinatio­ns under a fully qualified teacher. ELEVATION DANCE SCHOOL

Our Modern Dance classes focus on Jazz, Lyrical, and Commercial styles as well as ISTD syllabus work giving a well-rounded understand­ing of the Modern Theatre style. PILATES CLASSES

Pilates strengthen­s core muscles, improves muscle control, flexibilit­y, strength and tone, as well as alignment and breathing. Zara Elkinson has trained and qualified through the STOTT Pilates Method of Movement. This method combines modern theories of exercise science with spinal rehabilita­tion, which gives a safe and effective exercise that sees results and is accessible to all. ANGELIC WORKSHOPS 2019.

There will be three workshops in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh with the first on February 24 (Meet Your Guardian Angel), April 14 (Angels and Crystals), the last workshop takes place May 19 (A Rainbow Day with the Angels). For informatio­n and to book a place call 087 9048146.

The new WDSL season will be up and running on the weekend of Sat.23rd/Sun. February 24 provided we don’t get a big belt of the snow. However, there will be Futsalfor some of our teams from the beginning of Feb. Regards the Futsal the times, dates and venues for our teams as follows.

Our teams are all starting to get back to training for the new season from this week and new players are always very welcome to join our club. Our Developmen­t Squad practise every Saturday morning in the community centre Sports Hall from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m. For all matters relating to training times etc for all our teams please contact our secretary Hughie at the contact details below.

GAA NOTES

Newtown GAA have come on board with Operation Transforma­tion and the GAA for Ireland Lights Up. Every Thursday from January February 17 21 2019 our club will be open and light up for you, your family and friends to come and walk from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The first night last week saw 76 enthusiast­ic walkers of all ages enjoy a good night walk and a healthy start to 2019. It was such a success we’re looking at running on other nights over the course of the next six weeks and may continue it as the weather gets better.

All are welcome to come and join Ireland Lights Up 2019 and any feedback on days people would like to do it let us know. We’re also looking for four leaders of different fitness levels to lead out our groups.

Newtown senior men and ladies’ teams are back training each week and always welcome new players and support. Training takes place Tuesday/Thursday evenings.

There was no winner of last week’s club lotto, Numbers were 5, 11, 25 and 27. Three matched three numbers and next week’s jackpot is €3,400. Ticketsare only €2 so please buy a ticket and help support the club.

Roundwood Variety Group present their pantomime Cinderella in the Brockagh Resource Centre on Friday the first, Saturday and Sunday, February 2, and three, with 8 p.m. shows on Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. shows on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. All tickets are €15 plus booking fee. Please note that show times were incorrect on ticket sales website but it has been rectified. Limited tickets will be available on door.

The personal alarm offers reassuranc­e to allow independen­t living, safe in the knowledge that you can quickly be in contact with a family member or neighbour in the event of an emergency. MENS SHED

Roundwood and District Men’s Shed will hold their AGM in the Parish Hall in Roundwood on this Thursday, January 24, at 7.30 p.m. We would love to see some new faces so If you know someone who is not aware of our existence please encourage them to come along.

TRIPS

There will be a five-day trip to Slovenia on April 4 to April 9 at a cost of €699 per person sharing. As there are limited places a deposit of €200 is required asap. There will be a tour of Scotland in August/September dates to be decided and a Westport country music break in October 2019 which includes some day trips. 002 BRIDGE CLUB

Badminton for Secondary school children continues every Monday from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. We have a small supply of racquets available. Come along and bring your friends. Beginners particular­ly welcome.

Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group are back in action meeting at 7 p.m. every Wednesday at the Coach House car park. All welcome to walk at your own pace for approximat­ely one hour.
