Avondale and Chraobh Abhann through

-

AVONDALE CC and Colaiste Chraobh Abhann Kilcoole will meet in the girls Senior football ‘B’ Shield final. The Kilcoole school had a fairly comfortable 9-11 to 2-3 win over St Kevin’s CC Dunlavin B team but Avondale had a tighter game against St David’s.

Avondale CC 7-7 St David’s 6-9 (after extra time)

Avondale got the better start going a few points up. St David’s settled and turned the ball over a few times with scores coming at the end of each play. Danielle Singleton the Avondale goalie made some very good saves. At half time Avondale were lucky to be only a point down 3-2 to 2-4 after making some careless passes.

The second half remained very tight with scores being exchanged by both sides. Casey Byrne, Lauren O Reilly and Emma Byrne added to Avondale’s tally. At the final whistle nothing could separate the sides with the score reading St David’s 5-4, Avondale 4-7.

Both teams made substitutions going into extra time. Shauna Dickenson and Mya Byrne came on for Avondale Community College. Thea Cullen for Avondale defended very well and intercepted the ball at crucial stages.

St Davids started the stronger team in extra time and went a few points up. At half-time in extra-time St David’s led by 6-6 to 5-7. Hard work by Natalie Farrell, Jessica Moxley and Sarah Lalor made sure that St David’s did not get out of sight.

Scores from Casey Byrne and Katie Toomey edged Avondale in front. St Davids did not give up and were awarded two frees in the last minute and were unlucky not to draw level.

Meanwhile, in the Senior ‘B’ championship, Blessington CC had a 5-10 to 4-4 win over Scoil Chonglais to qualify for the final where they will meet the winners of the ‘B’ shield. It has been a good year for the Blessington school as they are also in the final of the Junior ‘A’ where they will meet the winners of Coláiste Bhríde and St Kevin’s Dunlavin.
