-

The process to amalgamate Shillelagh and Coolboy G.A.A clubs has been ratified at County Board level , A huge well done to the members of both clubs who put a huge amount of time and energy in getting the process over the line , thanks also to County Chairman Martin Fitzgerald and his fellow County Board members for their assistance.

Michael (Mick) Lennon Coolboy passed to his eternal reward on Friday, February 1 last. To Mick’s daughter Caroline, sons Jimmy, David and Michael their families and to his extended family and friends all connected with Shillelagh - Coolboy G.A.A club extend their deepest sympathy, Ar dheis Dé go raibh a ainm dilis.

Tickets are now in circulation for the national club draw 2019, the draw will take place on Wednesday, March 6, and tickets costing €10 must be returned by Monday next, February 11. A fantastic array of prizes on offer here including the top prize of Renault Clio 4-expression, tickets are available from committee members, players and supporters.

We would appeal to members of both communities to support this venture as 100 per cent of all funds raised will be retained by the club.

The Junior ‘A’ football team have been drawn in a Championship group that includes Lacken/Kilbride, Hollywood, Blessington and Aughrim. A competitive group but one we are well capable of emerging from, training for all panel members has commenced under the supervision of Rathvilly native John Smith who will be ably assisted by a management team of Pat Doyle, Francis Simpson, Donal Wafer and Noel Murphy.

Training resumes next Friday, February 8, on the Fairgreen at 8pm. A full turnout is expected.

Juvenile - Outdoor activity at juvenile level is of course somewhat curtailed at this time of year, but the nursery which caters for our youngest gladiators, boys/ girls in the four to six-year age group continues on this Friday evening in the Coolboy handball facility commencing at 7pm.

Well done to talented juvenile club member Ross Whelan who was successful in the competition to design the new Shillelagh - Coolboy club emblem/logo. Well done also to Des Willoughby who has done Trojan work on this project and also on the design of the club playing kit.

The amalgamation of both Shillelagh and Coolboy G.A.A clubs at adult and juvenile level is the culmination of a lot of hard work by members of both communities and it goes without saying that the hard work is only just starting. But for everyone interested in promoting and preserving Gaelic Games in the area it is an exciting venture and we all hope a successful one.
