Student provided with new bus service to his school

-

A SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD student from Rathnew with mild cerebral palsy has been accommodated with his own bus to take him to and from school in Arklow.

Cameron O’Toole attends Gaelcholáiste na Mara and at the start of the new school year he encountered problems in securing concessionary bus tickets, meaning he had to be dropped off at school by his mother’s partner and then had to leave 20 minutes early to catch a Wexford Bus back home again.

In October Cameron was accommodated after a 57-seater bus rather than 55 was introduced. However, the long walks involved caused him difficulty, resulting in the Department of Education and Skills granting approval for another bus to assist Cameron, much to the delight of his mother.

She said: ‘The long walks to and from the bus stop were impacting on Cameron and he is now on crutches after breaking his foot.

‘It’s great news that the Department have sanctioned a new bus for Cameron and I have to thank Liz Duncan and her team from the Department for all their efforts. I really appreciate everything she has done for us’.
