Rugby club hosts reception to celebrate Town’s Cup success

-

ARKLOW Rugby Club was full of excitement on Sunday as it hosted a drinks reception to celebrate their previous Town’s Cup successes ahead of their second round clash against Tullamore.

All players and members that had been involved the club’s appearance in the Town’s Cup final in 1968 and 1974 and the winning sides from 1985 and 2004 were invited.

It was a great occasion full of nostalgia with guests meeting old friends and remembering those that are sadly no longer with is.

There was also an opportunity to have a photo taken with the Heineken Cup and Pro 14 trophies which were also present for the occasion.

Club president Mamie Louth said ‘We have a great tradition in this famous competition, something we are very proud of, as a club we are slowly rebuilding to hopefully lift the trophy again in the future’.

After the reception guests were then treated to a mammoth encounter that reflected all that is good about this historic competition.

Unfortunately Arklow narrowly lost out in dramatic fashion following a last minute try from Tullamore after extra time.
