Whale will host Juliet of Verona

-

GREYSTONES youth theatre group Making Waves has announced its first production, Juliet of Verona. They will perform the play at Whale Theatre in Greystones from Friday to Sunday, February 24, at Whale Theatre. Tickets are €10 and available at whaletheatre.ie.

Juliet of Verona, written and directed by Ciarán Coogan, is an exciting new adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Funny, lively, lyrical and accessible, this 60-minute play brings a new dimension and an unexpected twist to this classic tale of two families at war and forbidden love, and it promises to be a wonderful evening of theatre for all.

Junior Certificate English classes studying Shakespeare’s original play will find a lot to discuss in this different and dynamic version of the tale. The young and talented Making Waves cast bring their own special energies to their roles and are excited to be stepping on the stage of the Whale Theatre as an acting group for the first time. The cast includes members Katie Lacey-Curtis, Ruben Sweeney, Ciara Shortt, Alanah Bradshaw, Conor Doyle, Michael Clarke, Sarah Stack, Aleisha Archer, Tadhg Kavanagh and Ollie Morrison.

Making Waves Youth Theatre is a community theatre group based in Greystones and is generously sponsored by Ross McParland, Greystones Studios and the Whale Theatre. It was founded in 2018 by Ciarán Coogan and Aideen Walton with the aim of creating quality theatre experiences for young people from Greystones and environs, developing new material, and nurturing its members’ talents and theatre skills in a fun, artistic and supportive environment. Membership is open to all teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18, and the group meets for workshops or rehearsals every Sunday afternoon, 2 p.m. to 4.30 p.m., in Greystones Studios.
