The first team suffered a set back in their quest for the Saturday Premier title when they went down to a narrow 2-1 away defeat to one of their title challenger­s Ayrfield United.

The positive thing for the lads is the destiny of the title still remains in their own hands.

They need to regroup now, put this result behind them and go on another good winning run.

The lads went one up early in play courtesy of Ciaran McGettigan’s fifteenth goal of the season but the home side hit back straight away to level matters.

This is the way it remained up to half time.

Ayrfield nabbed the all important winner midway through the second period.

The lads gave their all trying to find an equaliser but on the day they couldn’t break down a resolute home defence.

The second team came up against third placed St Anthonys at Whitegates and were very unlucky to lose 3-2.

In a game were missed chances came back to haunt the lads, this was a game they definitely should have taken something from.

The away side took the lead against the run of play but Rovers hit back through Stuart Cox.

St Anthonys went back in front again but for a second time this young Rovers side hit back with an equaliser from Jack Crowley. The away side nabbed the winner with the last kick of the game which was a cruel blow the lads didn’t deserve.

Our under-17s played their first game of the John Tobin Youth League when they travelled to Ferndale Park to take on Arklow United.

A very much understren­gth Rovers team put in a battling performanc­e to earn a credible point in a 2-2 draw.

The lads fell behind early on and things got worse when the home side doubled their lead shortly after the first and it looked like a bad afternoon was on the cards.
