Locals in road war

February 2010

THE Gardai have stepped in to try prevent a bitter dispute between residents of De La Salle Court and parents of children attending the Holy Rosary Bethlehem Primary School from escalating further.

Residents have been blocking the entrance and exit to the estate to prevent parents parking there when they are dropping off and picking their children up from the school.

They claim non-residents are obstructing access in and out of the estate by parking illegally.

Martin Benson says residents fear emergency services won’t be able to access the estate in the event of a house fire or somebody falling ill, which has already happened twice.

It has also been alleged that residents have been verbally abused when they approached motorists about their inconsiderate parking.

On Friday, the gardaí and local councillors arrived at De La Salle Court to try and find a resolution. A letter has been issued from Wicklow Garda Station warning of the strict enforcement of parking bye-laws in the area.
