Lease signed for new primary care centre in Rathdrum

- By DEBORAH COLEMAN

A LEASE has been signed for the new primary care centre in Rathdrum and work is due to start in the coming weeks, members of Arklow Municipal District have been told.

The news was announced during an update on the proposed centres for Rathdrum and Arklow at last week’s Arklow Municipal District meeting.

The Rathdrum centre is being developed via the HSE’s Operational Lease mechanism and is expected to be delivered in 2020.

In relation to the Arklow centre, members were informed that it is being developed through the same mechanism and has received full planning permission with construction works due to commence this year.

Cllr Pat Fitzgerald raised a concern and said ‘I’m not sure that’s the situation’.

‘There was a very hazy reply to a recent Parliamentary Question lodged in relation to this development. I sincerely hope Arklow is going ahead,’ he said.

Cllr Fitzgerald said he was having difficuly making contact with the developer but conceeded that ‘he doesn’t have to talk to us’.

Cathaoirleach Miriam Murphy asked that Arklow Municipal District puts in a formal query on the matter seeking clarification.
