Seven new homes
THE former Arklow Town Council yard at Hudson Square is to become the site of seven new social houses, and one local councillor has shared a proposal for a potential name.
At the February meeting of Arklow Municipal District, Cllr Tommy Annesley shared the history of the site, kindly compiled for him by Michael Fitzgerald. He said that the site was previously the home of Poppie Crisps owned by entrepreneur JW Sheehan who was regarded as a generous and kind employer and an asset to the Arklow business community.
‘I commend Wicklow County Council for developing these houses on this site and I proposed that we call it Sheehan Court and erect a small information plaque outside once it is finished,’ he said.
His fellow councillors were supportive of the proposal, pending the approval of any Sheehan family members living in Arklow.
