Excitement building as new Tinahely Hall plans launched

- By DAVID LOOBY

EXCITING plans for an attractive extension of Tinahely Hall were revealed at a public meeting at the venue.

The extension – which will see a new glass covered facade, new toilets and a new kitchen added to the hall – will completely modernise the appearance of the popular village centre venue.

Chairperson of the Tinahely Hall development committee Rosemary Kelly said: ‘We are all very excited about it. This was the first time people got to see the detailed plans and they were all delighted with them. It’s the local community hall so there is great interest within the community in seeing it developed.’

The hall was built in the eighties and no work has been carried out on the large hall since. Ms Kelly said the hall, which is also the home of Kare, is very busy with local schools, sports clubs and community groups availing of the space regularly, while functions are also held there. It was used by a drama group four nights last week and Ms Kelly believes there is scope for an expansion of the hall’s uses once a kitchen is installed in the front of the hall. With a large catchment area, it is anticipated that the new look hall will attract increasing numbers of people in the coming years.

Leader funding of around €270,000 will enable the works to be carried out. Tenders are going out shortly for the hall and the committee need to raise around €78,000 to complete the works.

‘There’s a €78,000 shortfall which has to be made up. We have a great selection of people who attended the public meeting who will help fundraise for that. Works will hopefully start in the early summer and be completed within five months,’ Ms Kelly said.

‘It’s a fabulous looking plan. We are going to laminate the plans and stick them up around the village for people to see.’

A race night is being organised in O’Connor’s pub in the village on Saturday, April 13, with further fundraisers planned for later in the year.
