Snag works on road projects under way

ROAD works taking place across the Arklow Municipal District were reported to the elected members on Wednesday.

They were informed that snag works on the Ballycoog to Clone and the Annacurra to Preban roads have commenced and are due to be completed at the end of February.

Concern was raised about the condition of the road and Cllr Pat Kennedy asked if the members could be alerted when they works are finished, and before the bond being held by the local authority is released.

Road strengthen­ing works are to be carried out on a number of routes and tenders are currently sought for the R752 Avoca to the Meetings, Tinnahinch and Ballyhahan, the R747 Aughrim to Tinahely road, the R755 Laragh to Rathdrum road, Arklow town to Tinahask Lower, L2180 Avoca to Beech Road and the L6124 Rathdrum to Ballyteigu­e while tender documents are being prepared for the L6187 - L6189 Johnstown to McGrath’s Cross.

Updates were given on a number of discretion­ary projects including the footpaths at the council estate in Kirikee, which are awaiting works on the public lighting.

The Arklow town CCTV scheme is at tender evaluation stage and the street light at Coolboy Bridge on the Beech Road is awaiting ESB works.

Footpath works at Ashleigh Close and Mountain Bay, Arklow are to commence by the end of February 2019.

Footpath works are also to start in the coming days in Avoca, to repair a dip in the path near Moran’s Garage while works are also planned to soon commence at Hawthorn Drive, Arklow.
