Stolen goods

-

A woman convicted of possession of stolen property has appealed the sentence handed down at Arklow District Court on Wednesday.

Shereine Taite of 10 Sarsfield Street, Sallynoggin, Dublin, was convicted of committing the offence at Coolboy Road, Arklow on October 3, 2016.

She received a 10-month sentence with the final six suspended for two years in her own bond of €250.

Solicitor David Tarrant told the court that his client, a mother of one, ‘has issues’.

‘She has issues but that doesn’t stop her going into shops and robbing,’ replied Judge David Kennedy.

‘Who was looking after the child when she was robbing stuff?’ he asked.

He outlined that a mental health problem was not an excuse for the defendant to ‘go around robbing’.

‘I haven’t robbed anything in two years’ the defendant told the court, to which the judge replied ‘congratulations’.
