Councillors updated on social housing repairs

A REPORT into the progress of social housing repairs and upgrades was presented to Arklow Municipal District members, who sought the information from council officials earlier in the year.

They were informed that houses which have yet to be completed in Phase 1 of the works are Tyndalls Lane, Tinahask Lower, Meadowvale, St Michael’s Close, St John’s Villas, Rockview, Mill Meadows, Glenart Drive, Avondale Crescent.

Areas which have been approved for Phase 2 works are Woodlands Park, Asgard Close, St Peter’s Place, Rory O’Connor Place, Rockview, Parnell Park, Rathdrum, Chapel Lane, Aughrim, Griffith Street, Fr Redmond Park, Corballis Drive, Rathdrum and Conary.

An estimated 126 houses are without heating, 32 of which are in Arklow Town and 94 in rural areas of Arklow Municipal District.

It was outlined that most of these homes have back boilers and the council is considering those with no central heating as those without gas, oil or electric heating.

Councillors were told that some tenants were offered heating in the past but refused.
