Series of meetings on county outdoor recreation plan
A NUMBER of consultation meetings taking place over the coming week will help determine the levels of outdoor recreation in the county and shape its future development.
The Wicklow Outdoor Recreation Committee, who are in the midst of developing the County Wicklow Outdoor Recreation Strategy (2019 – 2024), are inviting attendance by all outdoor recreation participants and outdoor recreation service providers such as guides, instructors, equipment hire and those providing a wide range of hospitality services.
Rural Recreation Officer for County Wicklow, Bryan Fennell said: ‘We are encouraging all who enjoy and partake in Outdoor Recreation in Wicklow to attend one of the workshops. It has been over a decade since the residents of Wicklow have been offered the possibility of contributing to a Countywide Plan and these events provide an opportunity to positively shape future recreational development in Wicklow.’
The meetings take place in Roundwood Parish Hall on Tuesday, February 26; Tinahely Courthouse Arts Centre on Wednesday, February 27 and Hollywood Community Centre on Thursday, February 28. Each meetings gets under way at 7 p.m.
Speaking about the meetings, Brian Dunne Coordinator of Wicklow Uplands Council, commented: ‘The Wicklow Uplands, as indeed all of Co Wicklow, are a key area for Outdoor Recreation in Ireland. Once completed, this strategy will guide the future sustainable development of outdoor recreation across the county so these workshops represent an important stage in the process.’
Irish Leisure Consultants, a planning and management services company that operate in the recreational, tourism and arts sector, are undertaking the strategic development process which includes engaging with all stakeholders.
