Dublin Viols introduce the start of Spring at Nun’s Cross Church

- By MYLES BUCHANAN

NUN’S Cross Church in Ashford was the setting for a concert on Saturday night by the Dublin Viols featuring music from the 17th Century right up to the present day.

Alchemy Music organised the night which saw David O’Doherty on violin and Catharina Lemoni perform compositions by the likes of Arvo Pärt, Deane and Paderewski.

The Dublin Viols are an offshoot of The Consort of St Sepulchre, Dublin’s all-singing, all-playing, all-dancing Renaissance band of the 1970s.

They reformed to continue promoting the genre in a more specialised way and generally focus on music from the late Renaissance, mostly by English composers of the sixteenth and early seventeenth century.
