Banville will speak in Bray

BOOKER PRIZE-winning author John Banville will visit Bray next month for the latest in the series of The Writing Life.

Mr Banville, pictured, will be at the Mermaid Theatre at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 1, to chat to writer Philip St John about his work and life. They will also discuss the artefacts that have inspired their writing: books, music and photograph­s.

John Banville is a giant of world fiction and one of the finest prose writers of the last 50 years. His novel The Book of Evidence was shortliste­d for the Booker Prize in 1989 and he later won the award in 2005 with The Sea. He has also won The James Tait black Memorial Award, The Guardian Fiction Prize, The Franz Kafka Prize and The Prince of Asturias Award for Literature.

Under the pseudonym Benjamin Black, he has written seven crime novels featuring the brilliant pathologis­t, Quirke – three of which have been adapted for TV and broadcast on the BBC.

Tickets for The Writing Life with John Banville cost €12/€10 and are available from the Mermaid Theatre.
