Birdwatching outing to North Bull Island
THE Wicklow branch of BirdWatch Ireland have arranged a trip to North Bull Island in conjunction with Dublin City Council.
North Bull Island is the most designated wildlife site in Ireland and is a Special Protection Area under the EU Birds Directive and a Special Area of Conservation under the EU Habitats Directive, a UNESCO biosphere reserve and a National Nature Reserve.
The outing on Saturday, February 23, will allow guests to come and see the benefit created for wild birds and enjoy the panoramic scenery of Dublin Bay, while receiving information about the birds from our expert ornithological guides. The meeting point is on the causeway at 10 a.m.
On Tuesday, March 12, Wicklow welcomes BirdWatch Ireland’s Countryside Bird Survey (CBS) coordinator Dick Coombes to the Glenview Hotel where he will share his wealth of knowledge gained from running the CBS and the importance of his work in keeping track of ever changing countryside bird populations across Ireland. The talk will also include Dick’s inimitable guide to bird songs, an important aspect of identifying birds in the field.
The presentation gets underway at 8 p.m. and is expected to last for a couple of hours.
