1 DES BISHOP: Irish-American comedian Des Bishop will perform in Arklow for one night only on Sunday, February 24. The popular stand-up will bring his new ‘Take your Points’ show to Glenart College at 7 p.m. Take the Points – That’s good advice on the pitch but an even better metaphor for life especially when you don’t take advice well. How hard can it be for a man to say ‘point taken?’ Des Bishop’s new show tries to digest the incredible changes we have seen in society, both at home and abroad in the last year and a half. Me too, consent, Trump, the 8th Amendment and how divided everyone is online. Everyone is welcome to ‘Take your Points’, snowflakes, the easily offended, those that complain about people being offended, PC and non P.C. people, religious people and atheists. We all have points to take and goals to come! Tickets are on sale now for €25 from the Corner House Pub, Glenart College at 0402 32149 or any Arklow Rock Parnells committee member. 2 CATS: Sheevawn Musical Youth Theatre present the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical ‘Cats’ at Mermaid Arts Centre. The show runs from Wednesday, February 20 until Saturday, February 23, each night at 7.30 p.m. The performanc­e will include juniors, inters and seniors all coming together to put on this fantastic musical. Tickets are available at mermaidart­scentre.ie. Based on TS Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the show is set amongst a larger-thanlife junkyard playground and is alive with our favourite feline characters including Rum Tum Tugger, Mr Mistoffele­es, Macavity, Jennyanydo­ts, Old Deuteronom­y, Grizabella and Skimblesha­nks.

3 PLOUGHING MATCH: Roundwood Ploughing Society are holding its annual ploughing match on Saturday, February 23, at midday in Glasnamull­en. Convention­al, vintage, Classic Tractor and Horse Classes will be catered for on lea ground. All competitor­s are also requested to have their names registered before 6 p.m. this evening (Wednesday, February 20) with Brendan Power at 087 2420204.

4 TRY ANYTHING TWICE: Rathdangan Drama Group will take to the stage with its production of ‘Try anything Twice’ by William Roche. It will hit the stage on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of February 22, 23, 24 and on March 1, 2 and 3 at 8 p.m. The event is being hosted by the Rathdangan Community Council and takes place in Rathdangan Hall. Tickets are €10 for adults, €5 per child and are available from the Village Pantry or Séamus at 086 3443805.

5 HARRY POTTER: The Harry Potter movies are loved by adults and kids alike and now the Pop Up Movie Club are offering the opportunit­y to watch two screenings of Harry. Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in the iconic surroundin­gs of Wicklow Gaol. The shows take place on Saturday, February 23 and Sunday, February 24, with both screenings starting at 7.30 p.m. It is the ideal opportunit­y to watch one of the brilliant Harry Potter movies in a truly unique location - after dark. 6 CATFISH BLUES: Ireland’s definitive blues band ‘The Catfish Blues Orchestra’ will play their first show of 2019 in the Hot Spot in Greystones. The gig will take place on Friday, February 22, at 9 p.m. The high octane show will include blistering guitar, creamy bass, steam train like percussion, melodic vocal work and true blues harp. This five-piece band produce a truly powerful sound that has to be experience­d live to be fully appreciate­d. Tickets are priced €10 to €12 at thehotspot.ie. The Catfish Blues Orchestra is a truly unique musical experience, comprised of some of the finest blues talents based in Ireland.

7 MICHAEL ENGLISH: Popular Irish singer Michael English and his band will perform in concert in aid of St Joseph’s and St Mary’s parishes, Baltinglas­s on Thursday, February 28 at 8 p.m. The fundraisin­g show takes place in the beautiful surroundin­gs of St Joseph’s Church, Baltinglas­s. English will perform a number of fans’ favourites including his new single ‘Music in my Heart’.
