CONTRACT SIGNED FOR KILMAC SERVICE ROAD

- By MARY FOGARTY

A CONTRACT for the construction of the N11 Parallel Service Road at Kilmacanogue was signed on Monday by Wicklow County Council with SIAC Construction Ltd.

The contract provides for the construction of a parallel service road to segregate traffic entering and exiting the residential and commercial properties on the southbound carriageway at Kilmacanogue as well as traffic exiting the mainline traffic at Junction 8.

The scheme seeks to enhance safety on this section of the N11 by providing for safer traffic movements to and from the mainline traffic at Kilmacanogue. The service road will have a speed limit of 50km/h.

The proposed scheme is approximately 1.6km in length between southbound Junctions 7 and 8. The parallel service road will commence approximately 600 metres north of the Junction 8 diverge and will incorporate the existing exit ramp for

Junction 8. Construction of the service road will require widening of the carriageway into the central reserve.

Site works will commence in the coming weeks and it is anticipated that the main works contract will take between six and nine months to complete. It is anticipated that two lanes of traffic will be maintained in both directions during construction, apart from isolated night-time closures.

The scheme is being funded by Transport Infrastructure Ireland.

WICKLOW will host three ‘Operation Transformation’ walks at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 18.

Organised by the Wicklow Local Sports Partnership, walks will take place in Bray, Blessington and Arklow. The Sport Ireland National Network of Local Sports Partnerships has teamed up with RTE One’s Operation Transformation with the aim of promoting healthy living in 2020.

The Blessington walk will start from Blessington Primary Care Centre and finish at St Mary’s JNS where there will be information stands hosted by local groups. The Bray walk will begin at the Shoreline Sports Centre on the Southern Cross. The Arklow walk will take place at the Arklow Running Track near the Duckpond.
