BT YOUNG SCIENTIST

Two CCA students, Seán Kavanagh and Dylan Cryan represente­d CCA in the BT Young Scientist Exhibition last week in the RDS.

The two third year students designed a manual horse loading system under the guidance of their Science teacher, Ms Julie Corrigan.

Seán and Dylan were commended for their excellent communicat­ion skills. They discussed and demonstrat­ing their project to hundreds of fellow students and visitors throughout the week, including the TUI president Mr Séamus Lahart, Deputy Stephen Donnelly, as well as being interviewe­d for television.

A huge congratula­tions to Seán, Dylan and Ms Corrigan on their excellent work.

The CCA Student Council presented their cheque for €650 to St Catrherine’s’ School in Newcastle on Thursday, January 9.

Two representa­tives from the Student Council, Jeremiah Scott and Rebecca Gillan, along with the SC Co-ordinator Mr Rice, visited St Catherine’s and spoke with the staff and students and were given a personal tour of the school.

The money was raised through the Christmas jumper appeal which took place in December. The funds raised was split between St Catherine’s School and the Laura.

FIRST YEAR FOOTBALL

Well done to the First years boys’ football team who made the long trip to Longford to play against St Mel’s on Tuesday, January 7.

The game was played in a very good spirit and the CCA boys were well in the game at half-time. However, a brace of goals in the second-half for St Mel’s saw them run out worthy winners. The game ended four nil to the Longford side.

The CCA boys are now looking forward to their next few games in the Cup. Thanks to their manager Mr Rice and to Mr Connor for accompanyi­ng the boys for this match.

SCHOOL MUSICAL

The rehearsals for the CCA School Musical ‘Popstars the Musical’ is well under way and the cast are working hard on the show which will be performed in March. Tickets are now available.

CLOTHES COLLECTION

The CCA parents’ council are holding a Clothes Collection to raise funds for the upcoming events in the school. Everyone is invited to declutter their wardrobe and bring in items of clothing that are in good condition to the school on Friday the January 24, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday, January 25, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Great performanc­e from the under-15 boys soccer team who lost to Wexford CBS 3-0. The final score did not reflect the tightness of the match. Excellent performanc­es from Craig David’s, Seán Byrne, Callum Davis and man of the match Lewis Stokes.
