CAROL SERVICE
Many thanks to everyone, including the RE Department, Music Department, SNA Team, readers and choir, for crafting a most enjoyable Carol Service 2019. The music, the readings and the reflections all steered us down a path of reflection, challenging us to ‘take stock’ and be thankful for all that we have while also acknowledging that everyone has their worries, challenges and crosses to carry. Thanks also to Ms Casey, who weaved our school experience into the theme of the service. Finally well done to Ben Verdes, who was on sound production for the first time with our new PA system.
THE 12 DOORS OF CHRISTMAS
Student Council ran a competition entitled ‘The 12 Doors of Christmas.’ Teachers and junior students from First to Third year wrapped and decorated their classroom doors as part of the competition. A staggering 36 doors were decorated throughout the school which added festive cheer and great craic not to mention a competitive streak to the month of December in CCM.
The overall winning door was Room G24, Mr Tobin’s First year technical graphics class. Other doors received awards such as ‘The Funniest Door’, ‘The Most Christmassy Door’, ‘The Spirit of CCM Door’, ‘The Student Council Award Door’ and ‘The Best Subject Themed Door’. In each category both the teacher and the students received festive prizes with the overall winner receiving a class party hamper.

SENIOR RUGBY
CCM-17 St Columba’s-0: The seniors travelled to Dundrum to face St Columba’s in the first round of the McMullen Shield on Thursday, January 9. The first half was all in CCM territory as we tried to attack from deep but faced a well organised home defence.
With both defences dominant, the first half ended 0-0. In the second half, Fionn Luddy at outhalf kicked deep into Columba’s territory and this paid dividend with an error leading to a penalty that put CCM 3-0 up.
The score stayed this way till two minutes to go when, from a penalty advantage in midfield, Fionn Luddy’s chip was collected by Seán Coffey, who got the ball back to Fionn; the break took us to the five metre line and, after two phases, Aaron Canterbury got a deserved try.
CCM broke from the kick off and Fionn’s cross field kick found Noah Sheridan, who scored in the corner right on full time An excellent defensive performance laid the foundations for a deserved win that books us a quarter final at home to Templeogue College.
