Glenisk teams up with SuperValu to reduce carbon
YOGHURT brand Glenisk is teaming up with SuperValu stores across Wicklow for the next few weeks whereby 40% of bio yoghurt sales will support the ‘One Million Trees’ sustainability initiative.
Earlier this year, Glenisk teamed up with Self-Help Africa to launch the One Million Trees drive, with the aim of planting over one million trees in both Ireland and Africa in 2020. Via the move, 100,000 native trees will be planted in Ireland and 1 million trees will be planted in sub-Saharan Africa.
Via the partnership between Glenisk and SuperValu €1 from the sale of each pot of Glenisk BIO Organic Yogurt (500/450g) will go to the One Million Trees campaign. It will run until 10 June.
The SuperValu stores in the Wicklow area where the offer is available include those in Charlesland Greystones; Castle Street, Bray; Main Street, Blessington; Mill Street, Baltinglass, Church Road, Greystones; Wentworth Street, Wicklow Town; and Wexford Road, Arklow.
According to Glenisk, the initiative will help the livelihood and living conditions of communities in sub-Saharan
Africa impacted by climate change. The company said the trees will help those living in harsh climates by providing shade, shelter, food, fertiliser and income.
Ray Jordan, CEO, Self-Help Africa, said that before the coronavirus pandemic, Africa was already facing extreme weather events.
‘While we’re all understandably focused on the challenge from the pandemic here at home, it’s vital that we don’t forget about the poorest and the most vulnerable abroad.’
Shoppers can support the campaign either in SuperValu stores-or online at supervalu. ie. More information on the One Million Trees campaign is available at selfhelpafrica.org/ onemilliontrees.
