Kilmacanogue lights up
GAA club unveil their wonderful development
IT was a case of lights, cameras but sadly no action last Friday evening when Kilmacanogue GAA Club’s new floodlights were switched on for the first time.
The stunning aerial photos taken by Aerial Media 360 which is operated by Aidan O’Toole show the beautiful green rectangle illuminated by gorgeous light as dusk settles over the Sugarloaf and they represent another major step taken by a proactive and ambitious club.
The project was made possible thanks to the proceeds from last year’s Lip Sync event that was held around the end of the IFC championship campaign which Kilmac were beaten in the final of by Dunlavin.
Club Chairman Christy Fox says that the development is ‘brilliant’ for the club and opens up important possibilities in terms of fixtures when play eventually returns.
‘It’s brilliant,’ said Christy. ‘The old lights just weren’t up to scratch. We could train under them but you couldn’t play a match and now we can. Now we’ll be able to play games of an evening there and there seems to be a desire to play games of a Friday night nowadays,’ he added.
While not the official turning on of the lights, Friday night’s illumination by electrical contractor Seamus Byrne from Carlow was a beautiful sight to see and allowed him a chance to focus the bulbs and have everything in top shape for when things get back to some sort of normal and the members of Kilmacanogue GAA Club can celebrate this major achievement.
Interestingly, it was Christy Fox’s team who claimed victory in the Lip Sync in 2019 with their version of YMCA by the Village People. Christy says the song (and his performance) has followed him around since the big show last year and that people refuse to let him forget it!
