Time for new crime measures

-

May 2002

THE Minister for Justice should examine the case for a new initiative to tackle crime in villages in County Wicklow, Labour TD Liz McManus says.

‘Many people living in villages as far apart as Aughrim, Dunlavin and Enniskerry have contacted me out of concern at the level of crime and lawlessness evident in their community,’ said Deputy McManus.

‘In some cases, break-ins and robberies have occurred. In others, anti-social behaviour by young people has been the cause of grave nuisance,’ she said.

‘It is time that the lack of gardaí in villages be reviewed and that arrangements be made to ensure a swift response by the gardaí when law-breaking occurs,’ Deputy McManus added.
