PLANS TO BUILD 18 HOMES ON THE SITE OF FORMER ST ERNAN’S BNS
THERE are plans to demolish the existing St Ernan’s School building in Rathnew and replace it with 18 houses.
While Knoxpark Developments Ltd. have yet to lodge a planning application with Wicklow County Council, they have already placed a planning notice in the Wicklow People.
The site has been vacant since 2016 when St Ernan’s amalgamated with St Joseph’s GNS to form St Coens NS.
There have also been ongoing complains about anti-social behaviour taking place both inside the derelict building and on the grounds of the site.
Knoxpark Development Ltd. intend to knock down the existing school building and prefabricated classrooms in order to construct 18 semi detached and terraced houses consisting of two Type A three bed houses, eight Type B three bed houses and eight Type C three bed houses.
There are also plans for the provision of roads, turning areas, car parking spaces, public open spaces, landscaping and connections to all existing public services.
There had been complaints about anti-social behaviour taking place at the vacant property, leading to calls for the site and premises to be properly secured and sealed-off.
Cllr John Snell has welcomed news that a planning application will soon be submitted to Wicklow County Council seeking permission to construct the 18 houses.
He said: ‘It was inevitable that housing would be built on this site, but it’s just a pity that it has taken so long,’
